Welcome Home Kits
About REAL LIFE:
REAL LIFE creates pathways to attain and sustain a thriving life for those who desire change.
Our REAL Houses offer a safe place that our Lifers can call home while they receive holistic programming services. REAL Houses are the only free structured environment houses in Richmond. Most prospective Lifers (clients) are exiting incarceration or experiencing homelessness - bouncing from couch to couch, living in an abandoned building, or simply sleeping on the street. Finding a job or achieving other milestones necessary for a Thriving Life is nearly impossible due to having no place to leave their personal belongings, shower, eat, sleep, or even to wash clothes. REAL Houses allow a new Lifer to move in, free of charge. Once they find work with the assistance of our Senior Employment Navigator, they begin paying a modest weekly programming fee.

The Project: When new clients first arrive at the REAL LIFE recovery houses, they often come with just the clothes on their back. You can help make their transition a bit easier by donating Welcome Home Kits for the men and women entering our program. This project is perfect for families, church groups, youth groups, neighbors, and volunteer organizations!
We ask that each volunteer create at least 5 Welcome Home Kits per sign up. We also ask kindly that you write a Note of Encouragement for our new Lifers to start them off on their journey. Please fill a laundry basket, tote bag, or a small plastic bin with the following full-sized products:
- A Note of Encouragement
- Shampoo, Conditioner
- Soap or Body Wash
- Lotion
- Deodorant
- Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Floss
- Razor
- Brush or Comb
- Hand Sanitizer
- Laundry Detergent (small container)
- Notebook/Journal
- Pack of pens
A few important notes:
- Once you express interest, someone from the REAL LIFE team will contact you within two business days with a link to sign up for a specific house and month. Please do not complete the project until you have signed up for a specific house and month.
- The address listed on this opportunity is our main office – kits will be delivered there and we will then distribute amongst the houses.
- Each individual sign-up for 5 kits is equivalent to 10 hours of service.
