The Wetlands Habitat Restoration
Please read full description!
Join The James River Park System most second and fourth Saturdays as we tackle the removal of invasive plants from The Wetlands to help restore The James River Park's riparian buffer, natural habitat and tree canopy! This is difficult work and it is very hot. We will be using provided hand tools such as saws and pruners to remove invasive shrubs and vines from the interior of the park. Hazards include poison ivy, briars, thorns, and insects. Please wear long pants and sturdy shoes. Volunteers must bring their own water. If you do not bring water for yourself, you will not be able to participate.
Tools and gloves will be provided by JRPS. Please feel free to bring your favorite tool from home and a pair of gloves that you already own. Please bring water and a snack, wear closed toe shoes and dress comfortably as we will be outside for the duration of the project. Regardless of the weather, we strongly recommend wearing long sleeves and long pants to protect yourself from plants such as briars and poison ivy. We look forward to working with you! In the event of storms or heavy rain, this event will be canceled.
Use 3395 Landria for GPS. There is parking along the right hand side of Landria Drive leading up to the entrance of the park. We will meet at the entrance at 10 am to walk to our target site together. Please arrive by 10am so that you can receive your orientation, tools, and walk with the group. Please note, this park does not have a bathroom facility.
