Urban Greenspace Volunteer at the Science Museum
Volunteer for The Green at the Science Museum of Virginia!
The Green at the Science Museum of Virginia serves as a welcoming public park that will implement natural solutions to address the impacts of climate change in an urban setting.
The Science Museum is adjacent to Scott’s Addition, which is one of Richmond’s fastest-growing, high-density, mixed-use neighborhoods. This district suffers from one of the lowest levels of urban tree cover in Richmond. Native trees and plants will play a key role in achieving The Green’s design goals and desired environmental and health benefits.
The Green has reclaimed two acres of asphalt parking and transform historic Broad Street Station’s front acreage into a 7-acre public green space.
To continue this project’s mission, we have scheduled regular volunteer days for The Green on the first Tuesday of each month – 9am-12pm.
If you have some gardening experience and are interested in assisting our horticulture team with maintaining The Green, please contact Jared Strawderman, Volunteer Coordinator – jstrawderman@smv.org / 804.864.1514
