Volunteer with VSU for Chesterfield County's "Food on the Move" Distribution
Brief Organizational Description:
Virginia State University’s Office of Community Engagement fosters active participation in service and volunteerism as an integral part of student development outside of the classroom. Through community service, students gain real-world experience and practice important skills like leadership, problem-solving, and time-management. Volunteering offers students the opportunity to apply their classroom learning to practical scenarios that have real implications.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to assist with Chesterfield County’s “Food on the Move” Distribution. This partnership between Virginia State University and the Chesterfield County Food Bank takes place every 3rd Saturday of the month, providing meals to families in the Chesterfield, Ettrick, Hopewell, and Petersburg communities. Your participation is crucial in addressing food insecurities in the Tri-Cities area.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities: We ask all volunteers to arrive to the Virginia State University’s Multipurpose Center by 8:00am. As a Food on the Move volunteer, your duties and responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with traffic management
- Helping load food into participants' vehicles
Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
- Closed-toe shoes are required
Time Commitment:
- 8:00am – 11:00am (3.0 hours)
- Location: Virginia State University Multipurpose Center parking lot, 20809 2nd Avenue, Petersburg, VA 23803
Other Information:
- The Food on the Move distribution operates every 3rd Saturday of the month from 8:00am to 11:00am, rain or shine.
- Volunteer hours will be verified on CFengage following your shift.
