Provide Dinner for Families in Emergency Shelter
About Housing Families First:
Housing Families First (HFF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization working to address and solve family homelessness in the Richmond region. Through the collective efforts and support of those who walk beside us, we continue to make strides toward a future where every family has a safe place to call home.
Make a Difference by Providing a Meal to Families in Hilliard House Shelter!
HFF provides dinner for every family staying at Hilliard House Shelter. Our Evening Supper Program allows our community members to engage with our shelter by signing up to bring dinners for families.
This project is perfect for individuals, families, congregations, youth groups, civic organizations, corporations, and neighbors.
How You Can Help:
Volunteers are invited to sign up to provide/serve dinner to families in shelter Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights. Volunteers are asked to prepare/cater a meal that feeds 25 individuals.
Dinners will need to be delivered or brought to Hilliard House located at 3900 Nine Mile Road. Some family favorites include baked spaghetti, tacos, fried chicken and sides, sub sandwiches and chips, pizza. Although not required, we appreciate drinks, paper plates, cups, napkins, and plasticware to go with the meals!
A few important notes:
- Volunteers are asked to prepare/cater a meal that feeds a minimum of 25 individuals and a maximum of 40.
- Meals should be ready to serve or just need to be warmed up! NO meal prep is to happen at our shelter.
- Setup time: 5:30P-6P, Dinner: 6P-7P, Cleanup: 7P-7:30P.
- When signing up, please sign up at least 72 hours in advance. This gives us time to inform our staff and residents that dinner will be served by the community.
- If the sign up dates do not work for you and your group, accommodations can be made upon request to Jasmine Snead via email at Jasmine@HousingFamiliesFirst.org.
- You can sign up to bring dinner to the families in shelter as often as you like. Most groups come monthly.
- Though we occasionally have people with food allergies in shelter, we do not ask our evening supper program volunteers to monitor allergens in the food they bring. We will always have food that is safe for the individuals who have allergies.
- We ask that group sizes stay between 2-10 individuals.
- Children are allowed to come in shelter to participate in serving the families. We ask that any child 17 and under be accompanied by an adult.
- You will be emailed with specific instructions once you sign up.
Age Minimum (with Adult): 1+, Minimum Age:18+, Court Ordered Volunteer - Allowed
