Food Pantry: Inventory & Packing Support

Brief Organizational Description:

(CAPUP) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with nearly 60 years of commitment to making a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals facing hardships. Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:

We are seeking organized and reliable volunteers to assist with packing and preparing bags for upcoming pantry distributions, as well as helping to unload, track, and sort deliveries as they arrive. This is a hands-on, essential role that helps ensure our pantry runs efficiently and that families and individuals in need receive the resources they depend on. 

Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Pack bags with dry goods and other pantry essentials in preparation for upcoming distributions. 

  • Help unload food deliveries, ensuring items are handled with care. 

  • Track, sort, and organize deliveries as they arrive to ensure accurate inventory. 

  • Work with pantry staff to ensure that items are properly stored and easily accessible. 

  • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized pantry space. 

  • Prepare and organize bags for distribution to unhoused guests, ensuring everything is ready and packed efficiently. 

  • Assist guests in carrying their bags to their cars, providing extra support if needed. 

  • Work alongside pantry staff to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the food pantry. 

Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. 

  • Ability to work efficiently in a team environment. 

  • Physical ability to lift and move boxes and bags (assistance available if needed). 

  • Reliable and dependable, with the ability to follow instructions and complete tasks in a timely manner. 

  • Previous experience in inventory, food pantry operations, or volunteering is helpful but not required. 

Time Commitment:

Volunteers will be expected to work for three hour shifts (for the duration of the food pantry + some prep time before and after). Your support will directly impact the well-being of our neighbors, and together, we can bring hope and comfort to those who need it most.

Other Information:

  • We will stamp your passport upon arrival. 
  • We will do an orientation on site. 
  • You must wear closed toed shoes and volunteers typically dress casually.
  • If mobility isn't an issue for you, please park in the parking lot on N. 18th St and walk down the stairs to our main building. If mobility is an issue for you, feel free to park in the small parking lot at our main building, 1021 Oliver Hill Way.
