Day of Service & Celebration - Litter Pickup at Blackwell Park

Join the City of Richmond's Parks & Rec and members of Keep Virginia Beautiful for the Mayor's Day of Service: Moving Richmond Forward Together! We will be doing some litter pick up at Charlie Sydnor Playground (aka. Blackwell Park), located in the Blackwell neighborhood. Volunteer projects will be held in all 9 districts across the city, with this opportunity being loacted in 8th District. Help us to beautify the area, creating a cleaner and more peaceful atmostphere for Richmond's southside families and visitors. 


Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
Volunteers will be assisting staff from Parks & Rec and Keep Virginia Beautiful, in trash, litter, and debris pick up. Volunteers may want to bring along sunscreen or a head covering, as well as a refillable water bottle (and snack if needed).  

Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
Trash pickers, safety vests, and disposible gloves will be provided, but feel free to bring along your own gardening/work gloves if preferred. Sturdy closed toed shoes/boots, long sleeves and pants are required. No prior experience or special skills necessary, though some lifting (max. 50lbs), kneeling, bending, grasping, and stooping will be required. All activities will be located outdoors, on uneaven terrain (ie. grassy lawn, wooded areas, sidewalks and asphalt roads). Please be aware of the weather forecast, and dress accordingly - this event is rain or shine, however advance communication will be sent if we need to cancel.  

Time Commitment:
This event will be on Saturday, April 26th from 11am-1pm. Please arrive on time and plan on staying for the full 2-hours. Sign-ups close 24 hrs before the opportunity! This allows for proper planning and communication.   

Other Information:

  • Upon signup, you will recieve TWO emails; one from CFengage and one from the Opportunity Coordinator at "Qui.Nguyen@rva.gov". Specific meeting location and additional instructions will be sent in the SECOND email - be sure to check your SPAM folder if you have not recived it. All volunteers MUST REPLY to that email to confirm participation, to allow for proper planning for tools and equipment.
  • Volunteer hours will be verified within 72hrs after the end of the event, though the CFengage website. Please bring your paperwork with you if a seperate form needs to be signed.
  • If arriving by bicycle, there are utility posts nearby, just be sure to bring a cable lock

  • If arriving by vehicle, there is street parking available along Maury Street and East 15th Street - check your email for the map and instructions, and please look for signs once arriving. Car pooling is encouraged!
