Drop In: School Learning Tools

Communities In Schools (CIS) of Richmond supports the educational success of Richmond students. Volunteers will use their crafting skills to create child-friendly educational activities and learning tools to benefit students and teachers in Richmond City Public Schools. There are three different craft projects volunteers will help with: Zapped: math learning, Cloud Identifier: science learning, and Activity Sticks: movement and stimulation.

This project is Drop In, Drop Out. Volunteers can come at any time during the 9am-12:30pm window and are expected to work for no more than 30 minutes. This project allows those who cannot commit to the entire 4-hour-window a chance to serve (and it wouldn't work if everyone stayed the entire time anyway!)

Volunteers will:
  • Cut out pictures
  • Create labels
  • Paint popsicle sticks
  • Decorate and label small jars
Volunteers can further help by bringing the following supplies:
  • Wood craft sticks size 3/4" x 6"
  • Wood craft sticks size 3/8" x 4 3/4"
Parking is free and on the street. Volunteers should wear casual clothing. This project will still occur if there is rain, as the event is indoors.

All volunteers who plan to attend must be registered, either as an individual, or via the team functionality. This includes youth. If a project requires an adult to be present, youth MUST register as a part of a team. To learn more about our Team Functionality, please view our Volunteer with a Group page.

If allowed on the project, any youth volunteers under the age of 18 must bring a parent-signed youth waiver to the project.
The waiver can be found after sign up on the confirmation page or by visiting our Volunteer with Youth page.
The opportunity date and time you are looking for is no longer available.
