Delegate Volunteer

The Richmond People's Budget is program supported by City Council, but truly driven by those living in Richmond. Over the next year, we will deeply listen to the community and decide how $3million is spent in their neighborhoods. We are focused on centering the voices of residents, making government more accessible, and funding community needs.

So what is a RVAPB Delegate?
A key part of the Richmond People's Budget process is taking all the amazing ideas we hear from the community in the fall of 2024 and turning them into tangible projects. This is where the RVAPB Delgates step up to the plate. Over several months, they will take their keen wisdom and understanding of the community to develop project proposals for each district. Guided by a the RVAPB Commission and staff, the Delegates will review the ideas, select 10-15 per council district, talk to City Staff about the projects, and then create a proposal descriptions.

These efforts will start in November 2024 and run through February 2025 with a training and meeting every other week.

What delegates will be tasked with doing:

  • Thinking about and deeply considering the needs of their neighborhoods.
  • Review a list of ideas that community members have shared and evaluate those ideas.
  • Meeting with others to organize community ideas and consider those that have the biggest impact.
  • Talk with City Staff to understand the cost and process for creating community projects.
  • Create 10 - 15 project proposals using provided information.

Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
