Richmond Invasive Species Awareness Week (RISAW): Invasive Species Removal Event

The Organization:

The James River Park System consists of approximately 600 acres of forested land in the city of Richmond along the James River. Staff and volunteers work year-round to remove invasive plants and create opportunity for native species to thrive.

Event Description:

Join us as we celebrate the 3rd annual RISAW, Richmond Invasive Species Awareness Week. We will have events throughout the city all week long. Each occurrence listed under this will be an invasive species removal event. You may be removing invasive vines, shrubs, or ground covering to help restore native species biodiversity in our community. Tools and training will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own work gloves if you have them! Please make sure you read carefully the individual occurrence for accurate description, location, and contact information. 

 

Volunteer Responsibilities:

*Register to participate and receive updates about event.

*Arrive by listed start time.

*Wear long sleeves, long pants, socks and sturdy closed-toe shoes.

*Bring drinking water.

*Experience isn't necessary. But learning is!

*Volunteer attendance will be verified online. If volunteers need written attendance, volunteers must bring their own volunteer log: VOLUNTEER LOG (LINK)

 

Hazards include but are not limited to: poison ivy, thorns, stinging insects, uneven terrain and weather conditions. Please prepare accordingly.

 

Location:

Please check the location for each individual occurrence listed. 4001 Riverside Drive is the main entrance of our park system, but most of the individual events will NOT be located at this entrance.

Additional Info:

Most of our park units do not have bathroom facilities or running water, please plan accordingly.

Changes or cancellation of event will be communicated to registrants via email.

If you register but then can't participate, please go to your dashboard on CFengage to remove yourself from the opportunity.
