Invasive Species Removal at Roger's Woods Near the Buttermilk Trail
Brief Organizational Description:
Capital Region Land Conservancy (CRLC) is dedicated to conserving the natural and historic resources of Virginia’s Richmond region for the benefit of people and nature.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
Help Capital Region Land Conservancy control invasive species at our Roger’s Woods property that will be added to the James River Park System. Targeted species include privet and English Ivy. Tools provided. Event is part of the third annual Richmond Invasive Species Awareness Week, a week of activities focused on invasive species in and around the James River Park System.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
Join Capital Region Land Conservancy as we tackle removing invasive plants from the Roger’s Woods property near Buttermilk Trail. This beautiful area will be added to the James River Park System, but needs your help to get ready first! We will be using provided hand tools such as saws and pruners to remove invasive shrubs and vines to preserve the tree canopy.
Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
Familiarity with invasive species is helpful but not necessary.
Time Commitment:
2 Hours - Monday, March 3, 2025 10:00am-12:00pm
Other Information (if applicable):
Please dress comfortably as we will be outside for the duration of the project. Regardless of the weather, we strongly recommend wearing long sleeves, long pants, and sturdy shoes to protect yourself from plants such as briars and poison ivy. Volunteers must bring their own water. If you do not bring water for yourself, you may not be able to participate.
Please feel free to bring your favorite tool from home and a pair of gloves that you already own. We look forward to working with you! In the event of storms or heavy rain, this event will be canceled.
Please arrive by the listed start time so that you can receive your orientation, tools, and walk with the group to the work site. If you arrive late, you may not be able to find the group or receive credit for any volunteer time.
Location: 5000 Riverside Drive Richmond, VA 23225 - Volunteers are advised to park in the area along the street.
Age Minimum (with Adult): 1+, Minimum Age:18+
