Ernest Rd. Spring Planting - two day event!
Brief Organizational Description:
Southside ReLeaf is a community-based organization committed to environmental justice in South Richmond. Our goal is to improve the life expectancy and quality of life for Southside residents by increasincpaces, reducing pollution and improving infrastructure. We believe in uplifting voices that are often unheard and people-powered advocacy to build climate resilient neighborhoods.
Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
Volunteers will be planting small to medium native shrubs and trees in the park behind Ernest Rd.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
Volunteers will be digging small to medium holes, removing plants from containers, and planting in the ground, unloading mulch bags, raking mulch and watering newly placed plants.
Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
No specific skills are necessary, though gardeners are encouraged to join. We will happily show you how to plant if you are new to the process. Please be prepared to navigate uneven terrain, lift, bend, squat, and dig.
Time Commitment:
Wednesday and Thursday April 23 and 24, 2025: 10a-1p (3 hours.) Please commit to being onsite for a minimum of one hour. Feel free to arrive later than our start time!
Other Information (if applicable):
- Attendance will be verified via CFEngage.
- Planting instruction will be available onsite.
- Please wear shoes that can navigate uneven, potentially muddy terrain.
- Park anywhere in the vicinity of 2913 Ernest Rd., being mindful to not block mailboxes. You will go back down the stretch that has a No Parking sign out front and head behind the houses to the right.
- Feel free to bring your own gloves. Gloves will be provided. Please bring a reusable water bottle.
- Photography Consent: By attending this event, you grant permission, right, and license to Southside ReLeaf to take photographs and videos at this event in which you may appear and to use, broadcast or publish such photos or videos related to the mission of Southside ReLeaf.
