Skills-based volunteering applies the talents of professionals to challenges in communities or gaps in the skills and services needed by nonprofit organizations. Skills-based volunteers provide expertise that directly supports a nonprofit’s internal operations, which strengthens the infrastructure and capacity of the organization, and becomes a powerful driver of social impact. We define a skills-based volunteering project as an opportunity with a specific deliverable that can be completed within 10-hours or less.

To match skilled volunteers to the needs of local organizations, we’ve launched Skills Connect — an online system that helps nonprofits develop and post skills-based volunteer opportunities that are well-scoped and structured to accomplish a key goal. The system then allows volunteers to express interest in volunteer opportunities, which nonprofits can accept based on the skills needed for the project and the skills offered by the volunteer.
