CarMax Cares Month
The Community Foundation for a greater Richmond is excited to partner with CarMax this year for their month of service in June. The proposal process is now open and will close on April 3rd. Please read the information below before submitting proposals.
Nonprofits are eligible for a donation following volunteer activities. Grants are typically awarded by August and are $1,000 if engaging 10-24 volunteers and $2,000 if engaging 25 or more volunteers. Funds will come from Benevity on behalf of The CarMax Foundation and will be submitted through the CarMax Associate Giving Portal by the CarMax Associate leading your volunteer project.

Register Your Organization with CarMax: Please search for your organization HERE . If your organization doesn’t have a profile, please create one. You will need an EIN (Employee Identification Number). This will help CarMax ensure your organization is eligible and is eligible for a grant and has an established EFT (Eletronic Funds Transfer) for donations.

Proposal Information

Project Month: Most projects will occur in the month of June. If your project is not timebound, please specify such in your project overview.

Project Day & Time: Projects must occur during normal business hours, Monday – Friday, between 9am-5pm, with a duration of 1.5 to 4 hours. All projects should have a rain plan/date.

Volunteer Numbers: Projects should be scoped for ~10 – 25 volunteers. It’s recommended that you scope each project for ~10 or ~15 – 25 volunteers.

Project Type: In-person! Projects can range from outdoor/indoor maintenance, art projects, youth mentoring, field days to administrative projects such as mailings.

Number of Proposals: No limit! You may submit as many proposals as you like.

Connecting with a CarMax Team: Projects that meet criteria will be shared with CarMax Associates. CarMax Associates will select projects approximately 3-4 weeks prior to desired project date. Once your project is selected, Community Foundation staff will connect your organization with a CarMax Associate Team Leader.
